A Doubly Green Separation Process: Merging Aqueous Two-Phase Extraction and Supercritical Fluid Extraction

چکیده
Aqueous two-phase extraction (ATPE) is a green separation technique which uses mixtures of water and environmentally benign polymers such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) solvents. One the challenges in implementing this on an industrial scale finding suitable method for isolation target compounds from water-polymer solutions after extraction, without diminishing ecological benefits method. In paper, we propose using another technique, supercritical fluid (SFE), back-extraction low molecular weight medium polarity ATPE solutions. Experiments with two model compounds, caffeine benzoic acid, showed principal applicability SFE task. Pressure (100–300 bar) temperature (35–75 °C) carbon dioxide play major role defining capability. Extraction ratios 35% 42% acid were obtained at high pressure moderate 1:6 volume phase ratio. That gives estimation 10–20 theoretical steps required complete exhaustive solution, readily achievable standard counter-current column SFE. Combining these methods together not only serves friendly valuable diluted solutions, but also allows simple, energy effective recuperation

high pressures also requires special equipment. In summary, both RESS crystallization and SAS crystallization appear to be promising methods for generating supersaturation and therefore represent alternatives to conventional crystallization. Such alternatives may prove attractive in applications such as polymer and pharmaceutical processing, or in particle design for drug delivery. It is possib...

متن کاملSupercritical fluid extraction of ethanol from aqueous solutions
The recovery of ethanol from aqueous solutions was studied by using supercritical carbon dioxide. At 333.2 K and 10.0 MPa, vapor /liquid equilibrium data of the mixture CO2 /ethanol /water were determined. No azeotrope was observed. Theoretical calculation of equilibrium stages was performed and compared with countercurrent column experiments. Separation of extract and solvent was optimized by ...
