چکیده

Abstract. We present a finite-element model of post-seismic solid Earth deformation built in the software package Abaqus (version 2018). The is global and spherical, includes self-gravitation for purpose calculating far field (>∼300 km) major earthquakes. An earthquake simulated by prescribing slip on fault plane mesh relaxes under resulting change stress. Both linear Maxwell biviscous (Burgers) rheological models have been implemented can be easily adapted to include different lateral variations structure, particular advantage over existing models. benchmark against an analytical coseismic solution open-source code, demonstrating good agreement all geometries tested. Due inclusion self-gravity, has potential predicting response multiple sources stress change, example, changing ice thickness tectonically active regions.

Finite Element Model of Cornea Deformation

Cornea surgeons have observed that changes in cornea curvature can follow cataract surgery and cause astigmatism. The placement of surgical incisions has been shown to influence these curvature changes. Though empirical data has been collected about this phenomenon, a biomechanical model has not been employed in predicting post-surgical outcomes. This work implemented an incised finite element ...

A gravity gradient method for characterizing the post-seismic deformation field for a finite fault

S U M M A R Y Gravity gradients are an effective method for delineating the extent of subsurface density anomalies. The change in subsurface density contrasts due to the seismic deformation gives rise to detectable gravity changes via the dilatational gravity signal or Bouguer anomaly. Solutions for the corresponding gravity gradients of these signals are developed for a vertical strikeslip fau...

Finite element model updating of a geared rotor system using particle swarm optimization for condition monitoring

In this paper, condition monitoring of a geared rotor system using finite element (FE) model updating and particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is onsidered. For this purpose, employing experimental data from the geared rotor system, an updated FE model is obtained. The geared rotor system under study consists of two shafts, four bearings, and two gears. To get the experimental data,  iezoel...

The spherical deformation model.

Miller et al. (1994) describe a model for representing spatial objects with no obvious landmarks. Each object is represented by a global translation and a normal deformation of a sphere. The normal deformation is defined via the orthonormal spherical-harmonic basis. In this paper we analyse the spherical deformation model in detail and describe how it may be used to summarize the shape of star-...
