A High Sensitivity Custom-Built Vibrating Sample Magnetometer

This work details the construction and optimization of a fully automated, custom-built, remote controlled vibrating sample magnetometer for use in spintronics related research teaching. Following calibration by standard 6 mm diameter Ni disc with known magnetic moment, hysteresis measurements Nd-Fe-B thin films acquired this built were compared to data taken using commercial superconducting quantum interference device showed very similar results. In plane out 25 nm Fe are also presented. The developed is able achieve sensitivity approaching 1 × 10−5 emu. Further alterations design that may improve beyond limit discussed.
