چکیده
Plant breeding for pest resistance is a long process, and the rate of development resistant varieties would be accelerated if genes to multiple pests could identified. A gene located in locus was cloned from maize inbred with Fusarium spp. pathogens. This codes an unusual lectin regions high histidine proline frequency two apparent sugar binding moieties. Binding studies yeast-produced versions indicated N-acetyl glucosamine residues are likely target. When expressed transgenically callus, reduced growth pathogenic species (up 71%) caterpillar 65%) noted compared control transformants, degree inhibition associated levels protein detected. Available sequence other inbreds it often disrupted code proteins function. Incorporation functional into crops will assist sustainable crop production by promoting enhanced resistance.

The response of maize (Zea mays L.) protoplasts to high temperature stress was investigated. After isolation and electroporation, protoplasts were preincubated for 12 hours at 26 degrees C then incubated for 6 hours at elevated temperatures. The pattern of polypeptides synthesized by these protoplasts during the last hour was monitored by in vivo labeling with (35)S-methionine. Incubation at 40...

MOTIVATION A large part of the maize B73 genome sequence is now available and emerging sequencing technologies will offer cheap and easy ways to sequence areas of interest from many other maize genotypes. One of the steps required to turn these sequences into valuable information is gene content prediction. To date, there is no publicly available gene predictor specifically trained for maize se...

متن کاملProtection of stored maize from insect pests using a two-component biological control method consisting of a hymenopteran parasitoid, Theocolax elegans, and transgenic avidin maize powder
The hymenopteran parasitoid, Theocolax elegans (Westwood), and transgenic avidin maize powder were tested to determine if their individual or combined use would protect stored grain from infestation by both internal and external insect pests. Small-scale tests were conducted in plastic jars containing 3 kg of nontransgenic maize. We tested treatments of 0.3% powdered avidin maize, the parasitoi...

Phenolic esters have attracted considerable interest due to the potential they offer for peroxidase catalysed cross-linking of cell wall polysaccharides. Particularly, feruloyl residues undergo radical coupling reactions that result in cross-linking (intra-/intermolecular) between polysaccharides, between polysaccharides and lignin and, between polysaccharides and proteins. This review addresse...
