A Singular Limit for Compressible Rotating Fluids

We consider a singular limit problem for the NavierStokes system of a rotating compressible fluid, where the Rossby and Mach numbers tend simultaneously to zero. The limit problem is identified as the 2-D Navier-Stokes system in the “horizontal” variables containing an extra term that accounts for compressibility in the original system.

Large-scale features of rotating forced turbulence.

Large-scale features of a randomly isotropically forced incompressible and unbounded rotating fluid are examined in perturbation theory. At first order in both the random force amplitude and the angular velocity, we find two types of modifications to the fluid equation of motion. The first correction transforms the molecular shear viscosity into a (rotation independent) effective viscosity. The...

v 3 3 D ec 1 99 8 A rotating incompressible perfect fluid space - time

A rigidly rotating incompressible perfect fluid solution of Einstein’s gravitational equations is discussed. The Petrov type is D, and the metric admits a four-parameter isometry group. The Gaussian curvature of the instantaneous constantpressure surfaces is positive and they have two ring-shaped cusps. PACS numbers: 04.20.Cv, 04.20.Jb, 04.40.Dg, 97.60.-s Rotating perfect fluid solutions of the...

Attractors of a randomly forced electronic

This paper examines an electronic oscillator forced by a pseudo-random noise signal. We give evidence of the existence of one or more random at-tractors for the system depending on noise amplitude and system parameters. These random attractors may appear to be random xed points or random chaotic attractors. In the latter case, we observe a form of intermittent synchronization of the response of...

Multi-Scale Classification of 3-D Objects

We describe an approach to the classification of 3-D objects using a multi-scale representation. This approach starts with a smoothing algorithm for representing objects at different scales. In a way similar to the classical scale space representations, larger amount of smoothing removes more details from the surfaces. Smoothing is applied in curvature space directly, thus avoiding the usual sh...
