A multidimensional combustion model for oblique, wrinkled premixed flames

A new premixed turbulent combustion model is proposed, which based on one-dimensional (1D) filtering of density times progress variable and reaction source term laminar flame profiles using a filter kernel that reflects the variation area planar fronts moving through volumes. It shown these genuinely multidimensional effects qualitatively change relation between filtered Favre-filtered compared to strictly 1D models , particularly at large widths . Analytical results for quantities are obtained by approximating suitable ansatz functions. Filtered data from Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) statistically flames range turbulence levels unburnt mixture two different heat release parameters used optimize validate model. For smaller than thickness, minor subgrid folding observed. larger filters, effect can be represented well wrinkling factor, reduces effective width in operation. Two factor fractal dimensions patterned literature models. The modelled written as function Favre averaged shows excellent agreement with DNS conditioned all investigated levels, both parameters.
