A Multivariate Faa Di Bruno Formula with Applications

A multivariate Faa di Bruno formula for computing arbitrary partial derivatives of a function composition is presented. It is shown, by way of a general identity, how such derivatives can also be expressed in the form of an infinite series. Applications to stochastic processes and multivariate cumulants are then delineated.

Faa' di Bruno's formula, lattices, and partitions

The coefficients of g(s) in expanding the rth derivative of the composite function g ◦ f by Faà di Bruno’s formula, is determined by a Diophantine linear system, which is proved to be equivalent to the problem of enumerating partitions of a finite set of integers attached to r and s canonically. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Fà a Di Bruno Hopf Algebras

Fà a di Bruno (Hopf, bi)algebras appear in several branches of mathematics and physics, and may be introduced in several ways. Here we start from exponential power series like f (t) = ∞ n=1 f n n! t n , with f 1 > 0. In view of Borel's theorem, one may regard them as local representatives of orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms of R leaving 0 fixed. On the group G of these diffeomorphisms we ...

A Faà di Bruno Hopf algebra for a group of Fliess operators with applications to feedback

A Faà di Bruno type Hopf algebra is developed for a group of integral operators known as Fliess operators, where operator composition is the group product. The result is applied to analytic nonlinear feedback systems to produce an explicit formula for the feedback product, that is, the generating series for the Fliess operator representation of the closed-loop system written in terms of the gen...
