A new adjunct in the differentiation of encephalitis and meningitis after negative cerebrospinal fluid culture: systemic inflammatory immune index

چکیده

Objectives: Encephalitis and meningitis can have serious potentially life-threatening consequences. This study aims to investigate whether the effects of systemic immune inflammation index (SII) neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/L) ratio on differential diagnosis, severity, clinical outcomes are superior each other in patients diagnosed with encephalitis emergency department. Methods: Patients aged 18 years older who presented adult department hospital were or between January December 2022 included study. under those missing data their files excluded from N/L ratio, SII values, associated parameters compared group mortality survived both diseases. Results: There significant differences neutrophil, lymphocyte, SII, C-reactive protein (CRP) values patients. significantly lower than was no difference any surviving deceased Conclusions: Simple calculable ratios such as be a supportive parameter diagnosis disease. However, it has been observed that using these indices is not useful tool determining severity prognosis meningitis.

A STUDY COMPARING CEREBROSPINAL FLUID LACTATE LEVELS IN CHILDHOOD CULTURE POSITIVE AND CULTURE NEGATIVE MENINGITIS

Despite recent innovations in the laboratory diagnosis of bacterial from nonbacterial meningitis, solid data-necessary for early determination of bacterial meningitis (BM) before organism growth in the culture medium-are missing. Therefore cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lactate levels were evaluated as a possible means of differentiating the two clinical entities. This was a retrospective study....

CEREBROSPINAL FLUID FINDINGS IN NEONATAL BACTERIAL MENINGITIS

Background : Meningitis is more common during the neonatal period than other periods of life and has a prevalence of one in 1000 live births. The similarity of its clinical manifestations with other infectious diseases makes it difficult to diagnose. The aim of the current study was to determine the relationship between age, sex, clinical signs and symptoms and laboratory test results of ne...

Cellular Immune Activation in Cerebrospinal Fluid From Ugandans With Cryptococcal Meningitis and Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome

BACKGROUND Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated cryptococcal meningitis (CM) is characterized by high fungal burden and limited leukocyte trafficking to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The immunopathogenesis of CM immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) after initiation of antiretroviral therapy at the site of infection is poorly understood. METHODS We characterized the lineage...
