A new global dataset of mountain glacier centerlines and lengths

Abstract. The length of a glacier is key determinant its geometry and an important parameter in inventories modeling; centerlines are the lines along which main flow glaciers takes place and, thus, crucial inputs for many glaciological applications. In this study, maximum lengths global were extracted using self-designed automatic extraction algorithm based on latest inventory data, digital elevation model (DEM), European allocation theory. accuracy dataset was evaluated through random visual assessments comparisons with Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI) version 6.0. A total 8.25 % outlines RGI excluded, including 10 764 erroneous polygons, 7174 ice caps, 419 nominal glaciers. 198 137 generated, accounting 99.74 input 89.68 %. comparison between previous suggested that most slightly longer than those v6.0, meaning some had been likely underestimated past. constructed comprises 17 sub-datasets, centerlines, lengths, DEMs, all can be found at https://doi.org/10.11922/sciencedb.01643 (Zhang Zhang, 2022).
