A non intrusive audio clarity index (NIAC) and its application to blind source separation

We propose a Non-Intrusive (or reference-free) Audio Clarity index (NIAC), inspired from previous works on image sharpness and defined as the sensitivity of spectrogram sparsity to convolution audio signal with white noise. A closed-form formula is provided, which only involves itself very little parameter setting. Tested in various noise reverberation conditions, NIAC exhibits high correlation well-established Speech Transmission Index, both for speech music. It can also be used clarity criterion drive sound enhancement algorithms. NIAC-based source separation algorithm, show that its performance comparable state-of-the-art algorithms, FastICA, SOBI, SEONS.
