چکیده

Using a corpus of over 370 compositional analyses Dutch Bronze Age and Iron (c. 2000 BCE AD 0) copper alloy artefacts, long-term patterns in the types alloys used for specific bronze objects are identified. As Low Countries devoid ores alloying elements, combination typo(chrono)logical analysis is to identify through which European contact networks (such as Atlantic, Central or Nordic exchange networks) these were obtained. We employ methodology that (following Bray et al., 2015) defines groups by presence As, Sb, Ag Ni 0.1 %wt, but expanded this classification include Pb track high-impurity (>1%wt) alloys. Due interfering soil-derived iron hydroxides, preferent dissolution from objects’ surface, determination tin most cases overestimated when using p-XRF, so Sn was not systematically reviewed. Objects assigned calendar age years facilitate chronological sorting. classification, we could show how different (using base ores) periods, combinations. Moreover, particular functional objects. Also, diachronic differences influx new (or less frequently mixed) trends substitution main element Early well rise leaded at close Age. Combining information on composition with their typological traits, allowed us reconstruct scales geographic scopes throughout later prehistory

Nanoporous Metals by Alloy Corrosion: Formation and Mechanical Properties

577 Abstract Nanoporous metals prepared by the corrosion of an alloy can take the form of monolithic, millimeter-sized bodies containing approximately 1015 nanoscale ligaments per cubic millimeter. The ligament size can reach down to the very limits of stability of nanoscale objects. The processes by which nanoporous metals are formed have continued to be fascinating, even though their study in...

Later prehistoric vegetation dynamics and Bronze Age agriculture at Hobbister, Orkney, Scotland

The Bronze Age in Britain was a time of major social and cultural changes, reflected in the division of the landscape into field systems and the establishment of new belief systems and ritual practices. Several hypotheses have been advanced to explain these changes, and assessment of many of them is dependent on the availability of detailed palaeoenvironmental data from the sites concerned. Thi...

Mitigation of Corrosion on Magnesium Alloy by Predesigned Surface Corrosion

Rapid corrosion of magnesium alloys is undesirable in structural and biomedical applications and a general way to control corrosion is to form a surface barrier layer isolating the bulk materials from the external environment. Herein, based on the insights gained from the anticorrosion behavior of corrosion products, a special way to mitigate aqueous corrosion is described. The concept is based...

Structural and compositional analyses of isolated cone matrix sheaths.

The cone matrix sheath is a biochemically and structurally distinct domain of the retinal interphotoreceptor matrix that is specifically associated with cone photoreceptor cell inner and outer segments. An aqueous extraction technique for the isolation of cone matrix sheath-enriched retinal fractions was developed and used to examine the structure and composition of this extracellular matrix do...
