A Novel State-of-Charge-Based Droop Control for Battery Energy Storage Systems to Support Coordinated Operation of DC Microgrids

A modern dc microgrid often comprises renewable energy sources (RESs), such as photovoltaic (PV) generation units, battery storage systems (BESSs), and local load, it is also connected to the utility grid through a point of common coupling (PCC). While most existing approaches have rely on communication links achieve desired control performance, this article proposes novel strategy without resorting links. This achieved by assigning BESSs master units regulating bus voltage with state-of-charge (SoC)-based droop control, where coordinate slave (e.g., RES grid) aid signaling (DBS) technique avoid overcharging overdischarging these BESSs. In proposed reference for designed coordinated operation between grid, maintained constant in normal SoC range, which can reduce variation. Droop coefficients balance are dynamically adjusted based their own values. Furthermore, preset maximum deviation ensures reliable operation. Real-time hardware-in-loop (HIL) tests considering three different scenarios conducted validate effectiveness method.
