The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a ginglymoarthrodial that allows translational or sliding movement in the superior compartment and rotational hinging movements inferior compartment. articulation of both mandibular condyles with glenoid fossa temporal bone separated by cartilaginous articular disk to undergo functional involved speech mastication. Any anatomic disequilibrium TMJ can produce mechanical dysfunction orofacial pain. complexity necessitates thorough understanding anatomy physiology diagnose treat its pathology properly. authors present second three-part educational series on TMJ, focusing pathophysiology assessment disorders.
