Electron-time Of-flight Spectrometer

A velocity selector is described which is designed for measurement of the total collision cross section of electrons in the energy region below one volt. The system determines the distributions of times of flight of single electrons over a measured path at selected pressures of a specimen gas. The electrons are generated by repetitive illumination of a photo-emitter by a spark gap, pass over a ...

Momentum spectrometer for electron-electron coincidence studies on superconductors.

We present a new experimental setup to study electron-electron coincidences from superconducting surfaces. In our approach, electrons emitted from a surface are projected onto a time- and position-sensitive microchannel plate detector with delayline position readout. Electrons that are emitted within 2 π solid angle with respect to the surface are detected in coincidence. The detector used is a...

Vibrational spectroscopy of clusters using a “magnetic bottle” electron spectrometer

The design of a high resolution “magnetic-bottle ”-type time-of-flight electron spectrometer suitable for the study of mass-separated metal and semiconductor cluster anions is described. A high collection efficiency is achieved by using magnetic fields to guide the photoelectrons, so that vibrationally resolved photoelectron spectra can be recorded at a low laser pulse energy (<lo ruJ focused t...

Performance of a short "magnetic bottle" electron spectrometer.

In this article, a newly constructed electron spectrometer of the magnetic bottle type is described. The instrument is part of an apparatus for measuring the electron spectra of free clusters using synchrotron radiation. Argon and helium outer valence photoelectron spectra have been recorded in order to investigate the characteristic features of the spectrometer. The energy resolution (E/ΔE) ha...
