A Single-Source Nine-Level Boost Inverter With a Low Switch Count

Switched-capacitor-based multilevel inverters for boost-type dc–ac power conversions usually exhibit a trade-off between the switch count and switch-voltage rating, i.e., reduction of one necessitating an increase other. Such dilemma is well addressed in this article by proposing novel single-phase nine-level inverter based on switched-capacitor network with single switch. The proposed then reduces number switches while generating boosted dc-link voltage. A unique six-switch full-bridge cooperating low-frequency half-bridge further steps-up output voltage quadruple gain. stresses devices are, however, maintained low even under high voltage, as all switches/diodes can be clamped to any low-voltage capacitors. Consequently, utilized, reducing overall loss. Detailed theoretical analysis, calculations, design considerations are provided. Comparisons prior-art illustrate its advantages. Simulations experimental tests 1-kVA prototype verify above-claimed benefits.
