چکیده

Abstract Insect-scale aerial vehicles are useful tools for communication, environmental sensing and surveying confined spaces. However, the lack of lightweight high-power-density batteries has limited untethered flight durations these micro vehicles. Wireless power transmission using radiofrequency electromagnetic waves could potentially offer transmissivity through obstacles, wave-targeting/focusing capabilities non-mechanical steering via phased-array antennas. But use so far been to larger Here we show that a wireless supply can be used drive an insect-scale flapping-wing vehicle. We sub-gram receiver with power-to-weight density 4,900 W kg –1 , which is five times higher than off-the-shelf lithium polymer similar mass. Multibody Analysis of a Micro-aerial Vehicle Flapping Wing

Abstract. This paper discusses the use of multibody dynamics, augmented by the direct implementation of nonlinear finite element beams and significantly shells, to perform the coupled structural and fluid-dynamics analysis of flapping wing Micro-Aerial Vehicles. The implementation of the shell formulation in a free general-purpose multibody solver is described and validated. The solver, coupled...

"Clicking" compliant mechanism for flapping-wing micro aerial vehicle

This paper presented a click mechanism, which is inspired by a Dipteran insect, for use in flapping-wing micro aerial vehicle. The clicking mechanism is integrated in a thorax-like compliant mechanism, which buckles and consequently produces a large wing stroke when driven by an electric motor. The thorax-like compliant mechanism can store elastic energy in flexible hinges and is good for stori...

Autonomous Loitering Control for a Flapping Wing Miniature Aerial Vehicle with Independent Wing Control

Flapping wing miniature aerial vehicles (FWMAVs) offer advantages over traditional fixed wing or quadrotor MAV platforms because they are more maneuverable than fixed wing aircraft and are more energy efficient than quadrotors, while being quieter than both. Currently, autonomy in FWMAVs has only been implemented in flapping vehicles without independent wing control, limiting their level of con...

Aerodynamics, sensing and control of insect-scale flapping-wing flight.

There are nearly a million known species of flying insects and 13 000 species of flying warm-blooded vertebrates, including mammals, birds and bats. While in flight, their wings not only move forward relative to the air, they also flap up and down, plunge and sweep, so that both lift and thrust can be generated and balanced, accommodate uncertain surrounding environment, with superior flight st...

Biomimetic-based output feedback for attitude stabilization of a flapping-wing micro aerial vehicle

The paper deals with the development of a bounded control law for Flappingwing Micro Aerial Vehicles (FMAVs) that mimics a strategy adopted by animal flapping flyers to stabilize their orientation. The control consists on generating torques about the body’s principal axes by means of a modulation of the wing angle amplitudes. It is known that flapping flyers orient their body without any numeri...
