Acaricidal activity of essential oils for the control of honeybee (Apis mellifera) mites Tropilaelaps mercedesae under laboratory and colony conditions

چکیده
Tropilaelaps spp. mites are considered a major parasite of honeybees. In this study, essential oils (EOs) 11 plant species were evaluated for acaricidal activity under laboratory and field conditions. Five adult per petri dish ten worker bees plastic cup cage exposed to different concentrations each oil (0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0, 10.0% (v/v)). The Piper betle (betel) showed the highest in testing. Additionally, most EOs low toxicity honeybees lab assay. betle, Amomum krervanh, Zanthoxylum limonella then tested whole colonies using cardboard strips soaked 10 mL at various concentrations, every week 4 weeks. krervanh 10% (v/v) P. betel 5.0% decreased mite populations after 30 days. We further grease sponge as application methods deliver A. with no significant impact on mites. Although several demonstrated against conditions, did not significantly reduce colony Therefore, concentration delivery these promising warrant investigation.

Chemical and cultural control of Tropilaelaps mercedesae mites in honeybee (Apis mellifera) colonies in Northern Thailand
At least two parasitic mites have moved from Asian species of honeybees to infest Apis mellifera. Of these two, Varroa destructor is more widespread globally while Tropilaelaps mercedesae has remained largely in Asia. Tropilaelaps mites are most problematic when A. mellifera is managed outside its native range in contact with Asian species of Apis. In areas where this occurs, beekeepers of A. m...
متن کاملEffect of Higher Plant Essential Oils for the Control of Red Tide Algae Cochlodinium polykrikoides under Laboratory Conditions
Antialgal activity of Zataria multiflora, Satureja khuzistanica and S. rechingeri were evaluated. These plant species are easily cultivable and their algicidal activity make them suitable candidate as biocontrol. This study aimed to identify effective algicidal compounds, practically new algicidal agents from essential oils of plants that could inhibit the growth of red tide microalgae. Prepare...
متن کاملResonance frequencies of honeybee (Apis mellifera) wings.
During flight, insect wings bend and twist under the influence of aerodynamic and inertial forces. We tested whether wing resonance of honeybees (Apis mellifera) matches the wingbeat frequency, against the 'stiff element' hypothesis that the wing's first longitudinal mode exceeds the wingbeat frequency. Six bees were immobilized with their right wing pair outspread, and stimulated with a shaker...
متن کاملThermal learning in the honeybee, Apis mellifera.
Honeybee foragers are exposed to thermal stimuli when collecting food outside and receiving food rewards inside the nest. In both contexts, there is an opportunity for foragers to associate warmth with food rewards. However, honeybee thermal learning is poorly understood. Using an associative learning paradigm (the proboscis extension reflex), we show that honeybees can learn to associate a nec...
متن کاملProprioceptors involved in stinging response of the honeybee, Apis mellifera.
Two types of mechanosensitive proprioceptor organ are present on the stinging apparatus of the honeybee: campaniform sensilla and mechanosensory hairplates. The campaniform sensilla are located on the surface of the tapering sting-shaft, which comprises an unpaired stylet and paired lancets. Each sensillum on the lancet differs from that on the stylet in terms of their topography and external m...
