Acoustic emission and digital image correlation for damage evolution in brittle rocks under time-dependent tensile loading

چکیده

Abstract Time-dependent rock deformation is considered to precede dynamic failure in many rock-engineering projects and natural geohazards. In order understand long-term performance of brittle rocks, we gather mechanical load, strain, acoustic emission (AE) digital image correlation (DIC) data describe the evolution damage cracking response tensile loading during multi-stage relaxation experiments on inverted single edge notch bending (iSENB) specimens. The source locations AEs correspond a process zone ahead around indicating microcracks. results showed that cracks first start aseismicaly under subcritical growth until 10mm from tip then they grow seismically by showing seismic signals form emissions. It was observed obtained DIC smaller than cloud AE locations. This can be partially because only shows surface errors associated with such as ignoring anisotropic velocity, sampling rate, sensor locations, etc. Moment tensor analyses both shear are involved micro-scale although macroscopic scale mostly tensile. microcracks tensile, continue shear, especially at end crack where specimen experiences compression loading.

On the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization

A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...

Brittle creep, damage and time-to-failure in rocks

We propose a numerical model based on static fatigue laws in order to model the time-dependent damage and deformation of rocks under creep. An empirical relation between time-to-failure and applied stress is used to simulate the behavior of each element of our finite element model. We first review available data on creep experiments, in order to study how the material properties and the loading...

failure behavior assessing of wood strands under tensile loading using acoustic emission technique

with the aim of identifying failure mechanism in oriented strand boards, failure behavior of wood strands under tensile load was investigated using acoustic emission technique. resinated and unresinated strands were arranged at top, middle and bottom section of the board before pressing. tensile and acoustic emission tests were performed simultaneously on treated and control samples. using tens...

Health Monitoring for Composite under Low-Cycle Cyclic Loading, Considering Effects of Acoustic Emission Sensor Type

Composites have been widely used in the aerospace industry. Due to the requirement of a high safety for such structures, they could be considered for health monitoring. The acoustic emission approach is one of most effective methods for identifying damages in composites. In this article, standard specimens were made from carbon fibers and the epoxy resin, with the [03/902/...
