Anisotropic X-ray emission in active galactic nucleus accretion discs
Straightforward models of X-ray reflection in the inner region of accretion discs predict that the primary X-ray flux and the flux reflected off the surface of the disc should vary together, albeit with a short light traveltime delay. Most of the observations, however, show that the X-ray flux can vary while the reflected features remain constant. Here we propose a simple explanation for this. ...
متن کاملFeedback in Active Galactic Nucleus Heating of Galaxy Clusters
One of the challenges that models of active galactic nucleus (AGN) heating of the intracluster medium (ICM) face is to explain how the mechanical luminosity of the AGN is tuned to the radiative losses of the ICM. Here we implement a simple one-dimensional model of a feedback mechanism that links the luminosity of the AGN to the accretion rate. We demonstrate how this simple feedback mechanism l...
متن کاملOutflows from dynamo-active protostellar accretion discs
An axisymmetric model of a cool, dynamo-active accretion disc is applied to protostellar discs. Thermally and magnetically driven outflows develop that are not collimated within 0.1AU. In the presence of a central magnetic field from the protostar, accretion onto the protostar is highly episodic, which is in agreement with earlier work.
متن کاملWien Fireball Model of Relativistic Outflows in Active Galactic Nuclei
We study steady and spherically symmetric outflows of pure electron-positron pair plasma as a possible acceleration mechanism of relativistic jets up to a bulk Lorentz factor of greater than 10. We assume that at the inner boundary a “Wien fireball” is realized, which is optically thick to Compton scattering but thin to absorption and in a Wien equilibrium state between pairs and photons at a r...
متن کاملActive Galactic Nuclei and Massive Galaxy Cores
Self-consistent N-body simulations have been performed in order to study the effects of a central active galactic nucleus (AGN) on the dark matter profile of a typical giant elliptical galaxy. In our analysis, we assume that periodic bipolar outbursts from a central AGN can induce harmonic oscillatory motions on both sides of the gas core. Using realistic AGN properties, we find that the motion...
