Adipose tissue fatty acids suggest spatial and temporal dietary differences in great cormorants of the Baltic Sea area

چکیده

Abstract Increased numbers of great cormorants ( Phalacrocorax carbo ) in the Baltic Sea may have local impacts on fisheries and salmonid hatcheries. We studied spatial temporal variability cormorant diet, potential consumption hatchery salmonids, by analysing knee subcutaneous adipose tissue fatty acids (FA) specimens (N = 77) collected along Swedish Finnish coasts different seasons during 2013–2017. The FA profiles subspecies sinensis were similar, with large individual variation. proportion C18 polyunsaturated FAs (PUFAs) was largest north, whereas C20–22 monounsaturated (MUFAs) increased towards south, reflecting diminishing freshwater increasing marine food web characteristics south. As an exception, MUFA percentage high June 2017 from northern Sea. source MUFAs probably raised ocean fish feed released 10 days before, near capture site. southern differed each other both early late summer samples, suggesting spatially diets. variation found 22:1n-11, characteristic zooplanktivorous fish, likely originating Atlantic wild or hatchery-reared fish. This study shows that can be used as proxies for seabird diet monitoring indicators predation Obtaining quantitative estimates proportions dietary species requires future feeding experiments, allowing calibration between compositions diet.

The Association of Omentin Gene Expression in Visceral and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissues with Plasma Fatty Acids Profile and Dietary Fatty Acids

Introduction: Omentin, an adipokine, with anti-inflammatory effects reduces insulin resistance, and can hence, play an important role in prevention of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The present study aimed to investigate the association of plasma and dietary fatty acids with gene expression of omentin in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues. Materials and Methods: Visceral and subcut...

Preferential uptake of dietary Fatty acids in adipose tissue and muscle in the postprandial period.

Despite consistent evidence that abnormalities of fatty acid delivery and storage underlie the metabolic defects of insulin resistance, physiological pathways by which fat is stored in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle are not clear. We used a combination of stable isotope labeling and arteriovenous difference measurements to elucidate pathways of postprandial fat deposition in adipose tissue ...

Adipose tissue fatty acids as biomarkers of dietary exposure in Danish men and women.

Adipose tissue fatty acids, it has been proposed, reflect dietary intake. Using data from a validation study preceding a prospective study on diet, cancer, and health in Denmark, we were able to compare fatty acid profiles in adipose tissue biopsies from 86 individuals (23 men and 63 women) aged 40-64 y and dietary intake of fatty acids (as percentage of total fat) assessed by two 7-d weighed-d...

Postprandial Triglycerides and Adipose Tissue Storage of Dietary Fatty Acids: Impact of Menopause and Estradiol

OBJECTIVES Postprandial lipemia worsens after menopause, but the mechanism remains unknown. The hypothesized menopause-related postprandial lipemia would be (1) associated with reduced storage of dietary fatty acids (FA) as triglyceride (TG) in subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and (2) improved by short-term estradiol (E2 ). METHODS Twenty-three pre- (mean ± SD: 42 ± 4 years) and 22 postmenop...

The role of dietary fatty acids for early human adipose tissue growth.

Childhood obesity is increasing worldwide, and all previous attempts to stop this epidemic have shown little success. There is now growing evidence that the risk of childhood obesity is strongly influenced by perinatal determinants, including prepregnancy body mass index (BMI), gestational weight gain, and—at least in animal studies—dietary factors during pregnancy and lactation. This review ad...
