Aerodynamic Drag Reduction on Speed Skating Helmet by Surface Structures

چکیده

The aerodynamic drag for speed skating helmets with surface structures was investigated in this work by using numerical and experimental methods. Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) research performed to analyze the detail of flow field around helmets. simplified helmet models, riblet bump structures, were analyzed CFD simulations. pressure distribution velocity obtained through analysis. results showed that boundary layer separation position obviously delayed, changed a higher value at back area structured Therefore, lower than original model. According results, three types helmets, structure printed on flexible film, tested wind tunnel. A full-scaled skater mannequin half body used experiment simulate actual process. Compared helmet, reduction rate 7% achieved middle region tunnel experiment, average competitions skaters.

Drag reduction on a patterned superhydrophobic surface.

We present an experimental study of a low-Reynolds number shear flow between two surfaces, one of which has a regular grooved texture augmented with a superhydrophobic coating. The combination reduces the effective fluid-surface contact area, thereby appreciably decreasing the drag on the surface and effectively changing the macroscopic boundary condition on the surface from no slip to limited ...

Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Tunnel Height on Drag Reduction in a High Speed Trimaran

There are different methods to reduce drag in high speed hulls. One of these methods is a change in the shape of the body by adding longitudinal side tunnels. In this paper it has been attempted to determine the influence of the tunnel height on hydrodynamic characteristics of the hull to achieving an optimum shape for the tunnel. To achieve this purpose, numerical simulation of the problem has...

Turbulent Drag Reduction by Spanwise Wall Oscillations

The objective of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of wall oscillation as a control scheme of drag reduction. Two flow configurations are considered: constant flow rate and constant mean pressure gradient. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using Fourier-Chebyshev spectral methods and the oscillation in sinusoidal form is enforced on the walls through boundary conditions for the sp...

Endurance in speed skating

We analyse the development of world records speed skating from 1893 to 2000 for both men and women. The historical data show that it is likely that the relation between skating speed and distance of the various events is non-linear and converges to a limit value. We pay special attention to technical innovations in speed skating, especially, the introduction of the klapskate in the 1996/1997 se...

Drag reduction by riblets.

The interaction of the overlying turbulent flow with riblets, and its impact on their drag reduction properties are analysed. In the so-called viscous regime of vanishing riblet spacing, the drag reduction is proportional to the riblet size, but for larger riblets the proportionality breaks down, and the drag reduction eventually becomes an increase. It is found that the groove cross section A(...
