Non-structural Case Marking in Tibeto-Burman and Artificial Languages*

This paper discusses the diachronic development of non-structural case marking in TibetoBurman and in computer simulations of language evolution. It is shown how case marking is initially motivated by the pragmatic need to disambiguate between two core arguments, but eventually may develop flagging functions that even extend into the intransitive domain. Also, it is shown how different types of...

Argumentation Systems and Agent Programming Languages

In this work we will present an integration of a queryanswering argumentation approach with an abstract agent programming language. Agents will argumentatively reason via queries, using information of their mental components. Special context-based queries will be used to model the interaction between mental components. Deliberation and execution semantics of the proposed integration are presented.

Case marking and alignment

In (1) the syntactic functions of S (gizona ‘man’ in 1a) and O (mutila ‘boy’ in 1b) are identically coded, while in (2) it is S (muzhchina ‘man’ in 2a) and A (muzhchina in 2b) that are identically coded. That is, the two languages differ in whether S is aligned with A or O. Henceforth we refer to syntactic functions such as A, O, and S as argument roles. Argument structure has to do with the nu...

Implementing Multi-Agent Systems: Languages, Frameworks, and Standards [Extended Abstract]*

As multi-agent systems research nears the end of its second decade, researchers have moved beyond stand-alone, one-off systems and have begun to create the software infrastructure for quickly creating new, highly interoperable systems. However, the desire for seamless interoperability ("open" systems) brings with it the push to standardize on agent communication languages and related agent serv...

Computing Languages with Bio-inspired Devices and Multi-Agent Systems

Natural Computing (NC) is an emerging field in formal language theory, which is mainly focused on the computing capabilities of formal devices that abstract some natural complex phenomena. These bio-inspired models include both, classic computing devices (such as cellular automata, Lindenmayer systems, DNA computing, evolutionary computation, Multi-agent systems or artificial neural networks) a...
