Alternative Approach for Tsunami Early Warning Indicated by Gravity Wave Effects on Ionosphere

چکیده
The rapid displacement of the ocean floor during large earthquakes or volcanic eruptions causes propagation tsunami waves on surface ocean, and consequently internal gravity (IGWs) in atmosphere. IGWs pierce through troposphere into ionospheric layer. In addition to transferring energy ionosphere, they cause significant variations parameters, so have considerable effects radio this dispersive medium. study, double-frequency measurements Global Positioning System (GPS) ionosonde data were used determine disturbances irregularities response induced by 2011 Tohoku earthquake. critical frequency F2 layer (foF2) obtained from also showed clear that consistent with GPS observations. similar properties, detected about 25 min faster than ground stations at United States west coast, located 7900 km away tsunami’s epicenter. As a high vertical velocity, propagate obliquely atmosphere, can be for early warning. To further investigate spatial variation electron density (IED), profiles FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC (F3/C) satellites investigated both reference observation periods. During tsunami, reduction IED started 200 continued up 272 altitude. minimum observed was 2.68 × 105 el/cm3, which has happened 222 increased 767 altitude continuously, such maximum increase 3.77 el/cm3 355

Tsunami early warning using earthquake rupture duration
[1] Effective tsunami early warning for coastlines near a tsunamigenic earthquake requires notification within 5–15 minutes. We have shown recently that tsunamigenic earthquakes have an apparent rupture duration, T0, greater than about 50 s. Here we show that T0 gives more information on tsunami importance than moment magnitude, Mw, and we introduce a procedure using seismograms recorded near a...

Abstract Today, the world has reached a new nature with advances in science. The Internet of Things is a technology that can connect all objects in different fields through the Internet. Any unforeseen event that destroys economic, social and physical capabilities and inflicts human and financial losses is known as a natural disaster, such as a tsunami. IoT-based tsunami forecasting system ...
متن کاملIndian Tsunami Warning System
Tsunami is a system of ocean gravity waves formed as a result of large-scale disturbance of the sea floor that occurs in a relatively short duration of time. The Indian Ocean is likely to be affected by tsunamis generated mainly by earthquakes from the two potential source regions, the Andaman-Nicobar-Sumatra Island Arc and the Makran Subduction Zone. A state-of-the-art warning centre has been ...
متن کاملDevelopment of tsunami early warning systems and future challenges
Fostered by and embedded in the general development of information and communications technology (ICT), the evolution of tsunami warning systems (TWS) shows a significant development from seismic-centred to multisensor system architectures using additional sensors (e.g. tide gauges and buoys) for the detection of tsunami waves in the ocean. Currently, the beginning implementation of regional ts...
متن کاملA possible space-based tsunami early warning system using observations of the tsunami ionospheric hole
Ionospheric plasma disturbances after a large tsunami can be detected by measurement of the total electron content (TEC) between a Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite and its ground-based receivers. TEC depression lasting for a few minutes to tens of minutes termed as tsunami ionospheric hole (TIH) is formed above the tsunami source area. Here we describe the quantitative relationship bet...
