چکیده

Abstract The unipole logging while drilling (LWD) tool is a recently developed acoustic that uses an azimuthal emitting source to generate waves in the borehole measure longitudinal and transverse wave speeds of surrounding stratum. In this study, transmitter transducer modeled as surface force source, analytical solution for LWD wavefield derived. received waveforms are composed infinite-order contributions owing directivity excitation source. Using up eight lowest-order modes, excited by calculated both soft hard formations, then slowness-time coherence velocity dispersion analysis performed. pure mode obtained using decomposition method. influence eccentricity (off-center positioning) on wavefields also discussed. Based addition theorem Bessel function, when eccentered can be obtained. with eccentricities 0 90% compared. Tool has smaller effect formation than formation. side closest wall affected most off center, sharp increase amplitude fast late arrival group These conclusions important design data interpretation tool.

Acoustic Emission and Echo Signal Compensation Techniques Applied to an Ultrasonic Logging-While-Drilling Caliper

A logging-while-drilling (LWD) caliper is a tool used for the real-time measurement of a borehole diameter in oil drilling engineering. This study introduces the mechanical structure and working principle of a new LWD caliper based on ultrasonic distance measurement (UDM). The detection range is a major performance index of a UDM system. This index is determined by the blind zone length and rem...

An Experimental Study Of Seismoelectric Signals In Logging While Drilling

Acoustic logging while drilling (LWD) may be complicated because of contamination by waves propagating along the drill collar (the tool waves). In this paper we propose a new method for separating tool waves from the true formation acoustic arrivals in borehole acoustic LWD. The method utilizes the seismoelectric signal induced by the acoustic wave at the fluid-formation boundary. The basis for...

DPCM Compression for Real-Time Logging While Drilling Data

Logging while drilling (LWD) is a drilling technique which obtains and transmits the logging data during oil/gas drilling operations. Because of the limited available transmission bandwidth of mud channel, how to improve the bandwidth utilization becomes a critical problem in LWD research. In this paper, by discussing the information entropy of real logging data, we find that the original encod...

Effects of tool eccentricity on wave dispersion properties in borehole acoustic logging while drilling

In this paper, a finite element approach is applied to study the dispersion properties of non-leaky acoustic waves inside boreholes with off-centered LWD (logging while drilling) tools. Both soft and hard formation cases are studied with focus on phase velocity dispersions of Stoneley, dipole and quadrupole modes. When an LWD tool is off-centered, the dispersion curve of the Stoneley mode shift...
