An Analysis of Bubble Migration in Horizontal Thermo-Capillarity Using the VOF Modeling

Due to various engineering applications, spontaneous bubble movement on the heated surface has brought huge attention. This work numerically studied migration driven by thermo-capillary force under temperature gradients perpendicular gravity direction. problem is constructed in a two-dimensional domain, and volume of fluid (VOF) method adopted capture properties interface between vapor liquid. One still initially positioned at center liquid gradient applied two side walls. The results show that with size greater than capillary length can only oscillate near initial position even larger gradient. deformation such as spheroid spherical cap be found around this regime. However, smaller significant higher gradient, it remains shape. coefficient (CTh) defined within work, Weber number (We) accomplishes CTh. may provide more precise guidance for smart manipulation critical heat flux estimation future nuclear reactor design.
