An Analytical Model of Turbulence in Parker Spiral Geometry and Associated Magnetic Field Line Lengths

Abstract Understanding the magnetic connections from Sun to interplanetary space is crucial for linking in situ particle observations with solar source regions of particles. A simple connection along large-scale Parker spiral field made complex by turbulent random walk lines. In this paper, we present first analytical model heliospheric fields where dominant 2D component turbulence transverse spiral. The wave supplemented a minor that has asymptotic slab geometry at small and large heliocentric distances. We show spreads lines region 60° heliolongitudinal heliolatitudinal range 1 au, standard deviation angular spread 14°. Small map an intermittent longitudes latitudes consistent dropouts energetic intensities. lengths are significantly extended nominal length 1.17 au up 1.6 sources behind west limb considerably longer than those closer disk center. discuss implications our findings understanding charged propagation importance properties close Sun.
