An efficient adaptive implicit scheme with equivalent continuum approach for two-phase flow in fractured vuggy porous media

This work investigates numerical method and equivalent continuum approach (ECA) of fluid flow in fractured porous media. The commonly used discrete fracture model (DFM) without upscaling needs full discretization all fractures. It enjoys the merit capturing each accurately but will get trouble with mesh partition low computational efficiency, especially when a complex geometry is involved. In this study, we develop an efficient implicit scheme adaptive iteration, which improved ECA devised then integrated scheme. Numerical studies show that proposed improves convergence condition efficiency. Then, test conducted to demonstrate feasibility using superposition principle permeability tensor upscaling. Based on these, different strategies are applied simulate networks geometry. demonstrated able reproduce results computed by DFM. accuracy depends resolution background grids. presented cost desirable performance compared standard DFM not considered.
