An Epoxy Adhesive Crosslinked through Radical?Induced Cationic Frontal Polymerization

چکیده

UV-initiated cationic frontal polymerization is exploited as a solvent-free, extremely fast, and low-temperature technique to obtain epoxy-based adhesives. Epoxy formulations are prepared by blending commercial resins at different weight ratios adding photo thermal initiators percentages. In addition, the influence of other critical parameters, including joint thickness, nature adherends, temperature, studied. As reaction front thermally sustained, boundary conditions play key role during curing process heat dissipation through adherends in particular. The properties epoxy formulation studied differential scanning calorimetry analysis, strengths investigated carrying out single lap off-set shear tests under compression. results demonstrate feasibility obtaining joints means radical induced adhesives, which exhibit comparable group conversion mechanical performances ones cured traditional energy-intensive techniques.

Modelling Cyclic Moisture Uptake in an Epoxy Adhesive

This paper presents a methodology for predicting moisture concentration in an epoxy adhesive under cyclic moisture absorption-desorption conditions. The diffusion characteristics of the adhesive were determined by gravimetric experiments under cyclic moisture conditions and the dependence of diffusion coefficient and saturated mass uptake on moisture history was determined. Non-Fickian moisture...

Predicting Mechanical Response of Crosslinked Epoxy using ReaxFF

The development of improved epoxy resins can be greatly facilitated using molecular dynamics (MD) techniques. Because molecular-level failure events can play a significant role in epoxy mechanical behavior, the reactive force field (ReaxFF) is an ideal tool for MD simulations of crosslinked epoxies. The results of this study demonstrate that mechanical stiffness and strength values predicted wi...

Computing thermomechanical properties of crosslinked epoxy by molecular dynamic simulations

This paper reports the use of molecular dynamics simulations to study the thermomechanical properties of an epoxy molding compound formed by curing tri/tetra-functionalized EPN1180 with Bisphenol-A. An interactive crosslinking-relaxation methodology is developed to construct the simulation cell. This crosslinking-relaxation methodology allows the construction of highly crosslinked polymer netwo...

Wavelength tunability in photoinitiated cationic polymerization

Onium salts, widely used cationic photoinitiators, have absorption in the short wavelength of the UV spectrum. However, their spectral sensitivity can be tuned up to the visible region by using several methods. Photosensitization of onium salts, their charge transfer complex formation and their free radical promotion are some techniques that are used to provide wavelength flexibility. This chap...
