On Minimum Kissing Numbers of Finite Translative Packings of a Convex Body
For a convex body K, let us denote by t(K) the largest number for which there exists a packing with finitely many translates of K in which every translate has at least t(K) neighbours. In this paper we determine t(K) for convex discs and 3-dimensional convex cylinders. We also examine how small the cardinalities of the extremal configurations can be in these cases. exists and can be expressed in terms of K and K ′. The functionals F under consideration are derived from the mixed volume or the mixed area measure functional. Analogous questions are treated for the motion group instead of the translation group. The resulting relations can be regarded as dual counterparts to various versions of the principal kinematic formula. Motivation for our investigation...
متن کاملTranslative and Kinematic Integral Formulae concerning the Convex Hull Operation Translative and Kinematic Integral Formulae
For convex bodies K; K 0 and a translation in n-dimensional Euclidean space, let K _ K 0 be the convex hull of the union of K and K 0. Let F be a geometric functional on the space of all convex bodies. We consider special families (r) r>0 of measures on the translation group T n such that the limit lim r!1 Z Tn F (K _ K 0) dd r () exists and can be expressed in terms of K and K 0. The functiona...
متن کاملA Lower Bound for the Translative Kissing Numbers of Simplices
First we recall some standard definitions. By a d-dimensional convex body we mean a compact convex subset of Rd with non-empty interior. Two subsets of Rd with non-empty interiors are non-overlapping if they have no common interior point, and we say that they touch each other if they are non-overlapping and their intersection is non-empty. Denote by H(K) the translative kissing number of a d-di...
متن کاملAn example of a convex body without symmetric projections
Many crucial results of the asymptotic theory of symmetric convex bodies were extended to the non-symmetric case in recent years. That led to the conjecture that for every n-dimensional convex body K there exists a projection P of rank k, proportional to n, such that PK is almost symmetric. We prove that the conjecture does not hold. More precisely, we construct an n-dimensional convex body K s...
