An IFC Approach for BIPV Technical Pre-design Consideration

Abstract The increasing demand for nearly-Zero Energy Buildings contributes to a broader discussion of implementing building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) on building envelopes. Existing research indicates that BIPV products should be digitally represented in Building Information Modeling (BIM) facilitate the design process. Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) schema as data exchange standard needs support relevant use cases enable BIM between stakeholders. However, there is lack clear identification which are needed basis assessing IFC’s ability capture and represent digitally. also necessary proper development Model View Definition (MVD) IFCs domain. This study uses technical pre-design consideration sample case demonstrate processes developing an MVD digital Australian context. A three-step approach employed, including collection through literature review interviews, defining requirements proposing initial based IFC4 ADD2 TC1. paper area by providing description Technical Pre-design Consideration context identifying existing challenges current IFC related representing product information.
