An integrated modelling framework for complex systems safety analysis

The ever-increasing complexity of engineering systems has fuelled the need for novel and efficient computational tools able to enhance accuracy current modelling strategies industrial systems. Indeed, traditional Fault Event Tree techniques still monopolize reliability analysis complex despite their limitations, such as inability capture underlying dependencies between components or include degradation processes maintenance into analysis. However, lack alternative solutions tackle large-scale efficiently contributed continued use methodologies, together with robustness familiarity well rooted in practice. paper defines a framework safety system performance which retains capabilities both fault event tree methods, but also overcomes limitations. ambition is provide technique application real-world preserving familiar user–model interface grounding approach well-known established techniques. In order describe methodology developed demonstrate its validity, five case-studies referring simplified plant cooling are analysed discussed. Further discussion regarding scalability proposed provided, outlining advantages implementation cost.
