An Iterative Fixpoint Semantics for MKNF Hybrid Knowledge Bases with Function Symbols

چکیده

Hybrid Knowledge Bases based on Lifschitz's logic of Minimal with Negation as Failure are a successful approach to combine the expressivity Description Logics and Logic Programming in single language. Their syntax, defined by Motik Rosati, disallows function symbols. In order define well-founded semantics for MKNF HKBs, Knorr et al. partition modal atoms occurring it, called alternating fixpoint partition. this paper, we propose an iterated HKBs We prove that our extends al.'s, that, function-free it coincides its The proposed lends itself well probabilistic extension distribution semantic approach, which is subject future work.

Paraconsistent Semantics for Hybrid MKNF Knowledge Bases

Hybrid MKNF knowledge bases, originally based on the stable model semantics, is a mature method of combining rules and Description Logics (DLs). The well-founded semantics for such knowledge bases has been proposed subsequently for better efficiency of reasoning. However, integration of rules and DLs may give rise to inconsistencies, even if they are respectively consistent. Accordingly, reason...

A Well-founded Semantics for Hybrid MKNF Knowledge Bases

In [10], hybrid MKNF knowledge bases have been proposed for combining open and closed world reasoning within the logics of minimal knowledge and negation as failure ([8]). For this powerful framework, we define a three-valued semantics and provide an alternating fixpoint construction for nondisjunctive hybrid MKNF knowledge bases. We thus provide a well-founded semantics which is a sound approx...

Iterated Fixpoint Well-Founded Semantics for Hybrid Knowledge Bases

MKNF-based Hybrid Knowledge Bases (HKBs) integrate Logic Programming (LP) and Description Logics (DLs) offering the combined expressiveness of the two formalisms. In particular, HKB allow to make different closure assumptions for different predicates. HKBs have been given a well-founded semantics in terms of an alternate fixpoint. In this paper we provide an alternative definition of the semant...

Reasoning with inconsistencies in hybrid MKNF knowledge bases

This paper is concerned with the handling of inconsistencies occurring in the combination of description logics and rules, especially in hybrid MKNF knowledge bases. More precisely, we present a paraconsistent semantics for hybrid MKNF knowledge bases (called para-MKNF knowledge bases) based on four-valued logic as proposed by Belnap. We also reduce this paraconsistent semantics to the stable m...

Implementing Query Answering for Hybrid MKNF Knowledge Bases

Ontologies and rules are usually loosely coupled in knowledge representation formalisms. In fact, ontologies use open-world reasoning while the leading semantics for rules use non-monotonic, closed-world reasoning. One exception is the tightly-coupled framework of Minimal Knowledge and Negation as Failure (MKNF), which allows statements about individuals to be jointly derived via entailment fro...
