Analysis of Optimal Sensor Placement in Looped Water Distribution Networks Using Different Water Quality Models

چکیده
Urban looped water distribution systems are highly vulnerable to quality issues. They could be subject contamination events (accidental or deliberate), compromising the inside them and causing damage users’ health. An efficient monitoring system must developed prevent this, supported by a suitable model for assessing quality. Currently, several studies use advective–reactive models analyse quality, neglecting diffusive transport, which is claimed irrelevant in turbulent flows. Although this may true simple systems, such as linear transport pipes, presence of laminar flows significant, especially at night peripheral parts network. In paper, numerical optimisation approach has been compared with results an experimental campaign using three different inputs (EPANET advective model, AZRED diffusion–dispersion equations have implemented, new diffusive–dispersive dynamic conditions random walk method, EPANET-DD). The problem was formulated Monte Carlo method. demonstrated significant difference sensor placement based on model.

Nodal Analysis Models of Looped Water Distribution Networks
There are three methods for analyzing flow and pressure distribution in looped water supply networks (the loop method, the node method, the element method) taking into consideration hydraulic parameters chosen as unknown. For all these methods, the nonlinear system of equations can be solved by iterative procedures (Hardy–Cross, Newton–Raphson, linear theory). In the case of extending or rehabi...

Location and types of sensors may be integrated for simultaneous achievement of water security goals and other water utility objectives, such as regulatory monitoring requirements. Complying with the recent recommendations on dual benefits of sensors, this study addresses the optimal location of these types of sensors in a multipurpose approach. The study presents two mathematical models for ...
متن کاملOptimal Sensor Placement for Leak Location in Water Distribution Networks using Evolutionary Algorithms
In this paper, a sensor placement approach to improve the leak location in water distribution networks is proposed when the leak signature space (LSS) method is used. The sensor placement problem is formulated as an integer optimization problem where the criterion to be minimized is the number of overlapping signature domains computed from the original LSS representation. First, a semi-exhausti...
متن کاملOptimal Sensor Placement for Water Distribution Network Security
Placement of sensors in water distribution networks helps timely detection of contamination and reduces risk to the population. Identifying the optimal locations of these sensors is important from economic perspective and has been previously attempted using the theory of optimization. This work extends that formulation by considering uncertainty in the network and describes a stochastic program...

The practical utility of optimization technologies is often impacted by factors that reflect how these tools are used in practice, including whether various real-world constraints can be adequately modeled, the sophistication of the analysts applying the optimizer, and related environmental factors (e.g. whether a company is willing to trust predictions from computational models). Other feature...
