Analytical halo models of cosmic tidal fields

چکیده

The non-linear cosmic web environment of dark matter haloes plays a major role in shaping their growth and evolution, potentially also affects the galaxies that reside them. We develop an analytical (halo model) formalism to describe tidal field anisotropic halo-centric density distributions, as characterised by tensor $\langle T_{ij} \rangle(<R)$ spherically averaged on scale $R\sim4R_{\rm vir}$ for virial radius $R_{\rm vir}$. focus axisymmetric anisotropies, which allows us explore simple intuitive toy models (sub)halo configurations exemplify some most interesting anisotropies web. build our around spherical Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) profile after describing it Gaussian mixture, leads almost fully expressions `tidal anisotropy' scalar $\alpha(<4R_{\rm vir})$ extracted from tensor. Our examples include (i) halo at axis cylindrical filament, (ii) off-centred satellite host (iii) halo. Using these, we demonstrate several results. For example, pure filament gives $\alpha^{\rm (fil)}(<R)=1/2$ exactly, any $R$. Also, vir, sat})$ vir, sat}$ function its host-centric distance is sensitive probe dynamical mass loss environment. Finally, discuss number extensions applications can deepen understanding multi-scale phenomenology

Halo correlations in nonlinear cosmic density fields

The question we address in this paper is the determination of the correlation properties of the dark matter halos appearing in cosmic density fields once they underwent a strongly nonlinear evolution induced by gravitational dynamics. A series of previous works have given indications that kind of nonGaussian features are induced by nonlinear evolution in term of the high-order correlation funct...

Constraining Dark Halo Potentials with Tidal Tails

We present an extensive parameter survey to study the influence of halo mass profiles on the development of tidal tails in interacting disk galaxies. We model the galaxies using a fixed exponential disk with a central bulge and vary the halo potential over a range of parameters using both the Hernquist and NFW mass distributions, probing the effect of the halo mass, extent and concentration. We...

Uncovering CDM halo substructure with tidal streams

Models for the formation and growth of structure in a cold dark matter dominated universe predict that galaxy halos should contain significant substructure. Studies of the Milky Way, however, have yet to identify the expected few hundred sub-halos with masses greater than about 10 M⊙. Here we propose a test for the presence of sub-halos in the halos of galaxies. We show that the structure of th...

Cosmic Reionization and the 21cm Signal: Simulations and Analytical Models

We measure several properties of the reionization process and the corresponding low-frequency 21-cm signal associated with the neutral hydrogen distribution, using a large volume, high resolution simulation of cosmic reionization. The simulation involving 24 billion dark matter particles utilizes a hybrid code with a particle-mesh N-body algorithm for dark matter and prescriptions for baryons a...
