چکیده

The prevalence of “grass-fed” labeled food products on the market has increased in recent years, often commanding a premium price. To date, majority methods used for authentication grass-fed source are driven by auditing and inspection farm records. As such, ability to verify claims ensure consumer confidence will be important future. Mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy is widely dairy industry as rapid method routine monitoring individual herd milk composition quality. Further harnessing data from spectra offers promising readily implementable strategy authenticate at both processor levels. Herein, comprehensive comparison robustness, specificity, accuracy 11 machine-learning statistical analysis were tested discrimination versus non-grass-fed milks based MIR 4,320 samples collected cows pasture or indoor total mixed ration–based feeding systems over 3-yr period. Linear discriminant partial least squares (PLS-DA) demonstrated offer greatest level prediction cow diet spectra. Parsimonious strategies selection most discriminating wavelengths within also highlighted.

Potential use of milk mid-infrared spectra to predict individual methane emission of dairy cows.

This study investigates the feasibility to predict individual methane (CH(4)) emissions from dairy cows using milk mid-infrared (MIR) spectra. To have a large variability of milk composition, two experiments were conducted on 11 lactating Holstein cows (two primiparous and nine multiparous). The first experiment aimed to induce a large variation in CH(4) emission by feeding two different diets:...

Intake of High Producing Holstein Cows Grazing Pasture or Fed a Total Mixed Ration

(week 4). Intake was estimated in week 4 by dosing twice daily with 5 g Cr 2 O 3 for 10 days. Fecal samples were collected twice daily on days 7 to 11 of Cr 2 O 3 dosing, with pre-grazing pasture being sampled on days 6-10 of dosing. Fecal output, calculated from fecal chromium concentrations, and in vitro digestibility (IVDMD) were used to calculate intake (Parker et al. 1989). The intake of c...

Potential estimation of major mineral contents in cow milk using mid-infrared spectrometry.

Milk and dairy products are a major source of minerals, particularly calcium, involved in several metabolic functions in humans. Currently, several dairy products are enriched with calcium to prevent osteoporosis. The development of an inexpensive and fast quantitative analysis for minerals is required to offer dairy farmers an opportunity to improve the added value of the produced milk. The ai...

Human Milk Analysis Using Mid-Infrared Spectroscopy.

BACKGROUND The composition of human milk is known to vary with length of gestation, stage of lactation, and other factors. Human milk contains all nutrients required for infant health but requires fortification to meet the needs of low-birth-weight infants. Without a known nutrient profile of the mother's milk or donor milk fed to a baby, the composition of the fortified product is only an esti...

Constants of Cow Milk

The Madras Act has also standardized the value of proteins of the cow milk as nitrogen at 0.5 per cent and that of dirt in it at 5 per 100,000 by volume. It may be remembered here that the standards fixed in England by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries by their Sale of Milk Regulation, 1901, are 3 per cent for milk and 8.5 per cent for milk solids other than milk fat. So the standard pr...
