Abstract Applying mathematical optimization (MO) in industry is still very often done by MO experts. In this contribution, we use an outside-in approach to describe the key requirements for projects be successfully instantiated within businesses. We focus on development and usage of decision support tools operational, tactical, strategic planning. They are used business experts with little or no background optimization. These people experts, e.g., planning managing complex supply chains global production assets.
