Artificial Multilevel Boundary Element Preconditioners
A hierarchical multilevel preconditioner is constructed for an efficient solution of a first kind boundary integral equation with the single layer potential operator discretized by a boundary element method. This technique is based on a hierarchical clustering of all boundary elements as used in fast boundary element methods. This hierarchy is applied to define a sequence of nested boundary ele...
متن کاملParallel Multilevel Preconditioners
In this paper, we provide techniques for the development and analysis of parallel multilevel preconditioners for the discrete systems which arise in numerical approximation of symmetric elliptic boundary value problems. These preconditioners are defined as a sum of independent operators on a sequence of nested subspaces of the full approximation space. On a parallel computer, the evaluation of ...
متن کاملAlgebraic Multilevel Preconditioners with Aggregations
Multilevel preconditioners can be used for solving systems arising from discretization of boundary value problems by the finite element method. Standard multilevel preconditioners use a hierarchy of nested finite element grids and corresponding finite element spaces. In some situations, it can be difficult or impossible to create such hierarchies. In these cases, it is still possible to constru...
متن کاملAlgebraic multilevel preconditioners with projectors∗
A new multilevel algebraic preconditioner for symmetric positive definite matrices is proposed. The projection and smoothing steps typical for textbook multigrids are replaced by a special coarsening algorithm which is based on orthogonal projectors onto kernels of subdomain matrices. The preconditioner is compared numerically with a few other multigrid preconditioners.
متن کاملMultilevel Boundary Functionals for Least-squares Mixed Finite Element Methods
For least-squares mixed nite element methods for the rst-order system formulation of second-order elliptic problems, a technique for the weak enforcement of boundary conditions is presented. This approach is based on least-squares boundary functionals which are equivalent to the H ?1=2 and H 1=2 norms on the trace spaces of lowest-order Raviart-Thomas elements for the ux and standard continuous...
