Artificial wetlands and floating islands: Use of macrophytes

نویسندگان

چکیده

Constructed wetlands, including floating islands, are a suitable technology for wastewater treatment. They low cost and respectful with the environment, which is why they significantly beneficial agricultural irrigation systems. One of limiting factors in structuring efficient constructed wetlands choice plant species that can tolerate eliminate contaminants. Macrophytes have an important role, since allow their filtration, retention absorption, among other processes. The objective work has been to show diversity emergent aquatic used treatment, highlighting such as Typha latifolia, doingness Eichhornia crassipes, constant use. In efficiency, manage nutrients organic matter excess, well toxic elements zinc, cadmium, lead, chromium, mercury, others, values between 15-95%. Some studies also address emerging pollutants, showing successfully mitigate presence contamination by these micro-pollutants, eliminating paracetamol, ibuprofen, caffeine antibiotics, 75-99%. frequent management practice mitigation biomass generated issue little explored rarely considered. It highlight several works where feed animals, fertilizers, generate building blocks production bioenergy through biogas.

Water quality improvement with artificial floating islands

As the natural purification of the traditional artificial floating island is very slow, the purpose of this research is to explore the efficiency of the green energy artificial floating island (GAFI) to improve water quality. We constructed experimental models near the bank of Lize Lake at MingDao University in Taiwan, where the surrounding waters and wastewater from the dormitories served as t...

Aquatic arsenic: phytoremediation using floating macrophytes.

Phytoremediation, a plant based green technology, has received increasing attention after the discovery of hyperaccumulating plants which are able to accumulate, translocate, and concentrate high amount of certain toxic elements in their above-ground/harvestable parts. Phytoremediation includes several processes namely, phytoextraction, phytodegradation, rhizofiltration, phytostabilization and ...

Floating treatment wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment.

Floating islands are a form of treatment wetland characterized by a mat of synthetic matrix at the water surface into which macrophytes can be planted and through which water passes. We evaluated two matrix materials for treating domestic wastewater, recycled plastic and recycled carpet fibers, for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and nitrogen removal. These materials were compared to pea gravel or...

Nutrient removal efficiency by floating macrophytes; Lemna minor and Azolla pinnata in a constructed wetland

The use of constructed wetlands for purifying pre-treated wastewater is a cost effective technology that has been found to be more appropriate for many developing countries. The technology is also environmentally friendly with the wetlands being habitats for many water birds and other aquatic organisms. This study assessed nutrient removal efficiency of two floating macrophytes (Lemna minor...

Turbulent Flow in Wetlands with Submerged and Floating Vegetation

Turbulent Flow in wetlands with submerged and floating aquatic plants was studied by applying Boit’s poroelastic theory to turbulent flow. The velocity distribution formulas were described by solving the modified Bessel equations. The effects of plant porosity and turbulent coefficient on the velocity distribution, shear stress distribution and energy relations were analytically derived. Severa...
