ASIC Design and Implementation of the Real-Time Collision Detection for Machine Tool Automation

Collision detection of two objects plays an essential role for the machine tool automation. Although collision has been studied in applications like virtual reality, requires high precision to avoid overcut damage high-cost tools. The current tools is under soft-ware based computer numerical control (CNC), low computation capability which refrains CNC approach from real-time detection. In this paper, we consider design application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) enhance Because bounded are represented by meshed triangles, separating axis theorem (SAT) algorithm. Furthermore, considering required applications, proposed algorithm includes either non-coplanar or coplanar triangles. Following algorithm, hardware architecture with parallel processing provide higher throughput rate over reported our conference paper. VLSI implementation results TSMC TN40G (45nm) CMOS technology reveal that 1,212K gates and provides 38.46M per second while operating at 500 MHz. For 400 respectively, can 0.96 ms, smaller than 1 ms objects.
