Assessing Elevation-Based Forest Dynamics over Space and Time toward REDD+ MRV in Upland Myanmar

چکیده

Implementation of a measuring, reporting, and verifying (MRV) framework is essential for reducing emissions from deforestation forest degradation (REDD+). According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, MRV can be regarded as an important mechanism mitigate global warming. Upland Myanmar, with elevation ~80–2600 m, experiencing tropical deforestation, which commonly explained by expansion shifting cultivation. The vegetation change tracker algorithm, its high-automation wild-adaptation features, enhanced integrated z-score were applied in this elevation-based study time series monitoring upland Myanmar using data 2003 2015. Four spatial patterns namely stripes, adjacent, filled, staggered, found research area. Moreover, our work showed that center was ~1000 m. Further analysis revealed tended shift higher over time; “golden cross”/changeover could deciphered at indicating scale intensity cultivation continue expand vertically. results suggest need track signature clearings help achieve goals REDD+ regional level rainforest countries.

Synergizing community-based forest monitoring with remote sensing: a path to an effective REDD+ MRV system

BACKGROUND The reliable monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of carbon emissions and removals from the forest sector is an important part of the efforts on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+). Forest-dependent local communities are engaged to contribute to MRV through community-based monitoring systems. The efficiency of such monitoring systems could be ...

Current remote sensing approaches to monitoring forest degradation in support of countries measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems for REDD+

Forest degradation is a global phenomenon and while being an important indicator and precursor to further forest loss, carbon emissions due to degradation should also be accounted for in national reporting within the frame of UN REDD+. At regional to country scales, methods have been progressively developed to detect and map forest degradation, with these based on multi-resolution optical, synt...

Forest Carbon Leakage Quantification Methods and Their Suitability for Assessing Leakage in REDD

This paper assesses quantification methods for carbon leakage from forestry activities for their suitability in leakage accounting in a future Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) mechanism. To that end, we first conducted a literature review to identify specific pre-requisites for leakage assessment in REDD. We then analyzed a total of 34 quantification methods f...

Assessing Forest Biomass and Exploration in the Brazilian Amazon with Airborne InSAR: an Alternative for REDD

REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) constitutes a set of financial incentives designed to reduce CO2 emissions from forest degradation and deforestation. REDD success depends on measuring forest biomass as a proxy for CO2 stocks. We tested the efficacy of airborne Xand P-band interferometry as a remote-sensing method to quantify forest biomass and detect changes i...

Assessing delivery practices of mothers over time and over space in Uganda, 2003–2012

BACKGROUND It is well known that safe delivery in a health facility reduces the risks of maternal and infant mortality resulting from perinatal complications. What is less understood are the factors associated with safe delivery practices. We investigate factors influencing health facility delivery practices while adjusting for multiple other factors simultaneously, spatial heterogeneity, and t...
