چکیده
Apis mellifera L. is considered one of the most important pollinators in nature. Unfortunately, addition to other insect species, honey bee populations are decreasing at an alarming rate, urging researchers investigate causes and stressors that precipitated this decline. This study focuses on chemical found affect populations. We used pollen samples examine variations pesticides, selenium, heavy metals two different landscapes: urban agricultural areas northeastern Colorado, USA. Subsequently, we extrapolated risks these toxins’ residues spp. Based current literature, no spatial metal selenium concentrations collected from areas. Moreover, observed pesticide samples. previous literature a comparison metals, pesticides our samples, some likely pose severe health risk bees. Although levels were below documented thresholds risk, consider possibility synergistic impacts. Our findings support future efforts associated with multiple-factor combinations.

Pesticide residues in beeswax samples collected from honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.) in France.
In 2002 a field survey was initiated in French apiaries in order to monitor the health of honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.). Studied apiaries were evenly distributed across five sites located in continental France. Beeswax samples were collected once a year over 2 years from a total of 125 honey bee colonies. Multiresidue analyses were performed on these samples in order to identify residu...
متن کاملHeterosis in the Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.).
HERE are three castes in the honey bee colony: the drone, queen, and worker. T The latter two are both females. The drone bee is a male, representing a haploid gamete of the queen bee heading his hive. The honey bee colony is composed of two generations of bees. The queen bee is, in effect, a potent egg-laying machine, while the workers are morphologically and functionally fitted for honey and ...

1. Oxidative dissimilation has been studied in enzymes from the honey bee. Using mitochondria isolated from the thoraces, complete oxidation of most of the TCA cycle members has been shown. 2. The presence of the acetate-activating enzyme, citrate-condensing enzyme, isocitric dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate, and 6-phosphogluconic dehydrogenase has been demo...
متن کاملSelenium Toxicity to Honey Bee (Apis mellifera L.) Pollinators: Effects on Behaviors and Survival
We know very little about how soil-borne pollutants such as selenium (Se) can impact pollinators, even though Se has contaminated soils and plants in areas where insect pollination can be critical to the functioning of both agricultural and natural ecosystems. Se can be biotransferred throughout the food web, but few studies have examined its effects on the insects that feed on Se-accumulating ...
متن کاملSub-Lethal Effects of Pesticide Residues in Brood Comb on Worker Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) Development and Longevity
BACKGROUND Numerous surveys reveal high levels of pesticide residue contamination in honey bee comb. We conducted studies to examine possible direct and indirect effects of pesticide exposure from contaminated brood comb on developing worker bees and adult worker lifespan. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Worker bees were reared in brood comb containing high levels of known pesticide residues (...
