ASSOCIATION OF BODY COMPOSITION WITH LEG STRENGTH, BALANCE CAPACITY AND DROP JUMP ABILITY IN CAPOEIRA ATHLETES: A PILOT STUDY

This study aimed to determine the association of body composition (BC) with leg strength, balance capacity, and drop jump ability in capoeira athletes. A total 10 male (age: 26.5±2.6 years) 5 female 25.0±2.9 athletes participated this study. BC measurement participants was performed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Performance measurements consisted 30º, 60º, 90º strength measurement, anterior-posterior balance, medial-lateral capacity jumps from heights 20 (DJ20), 40 (DJ40), 50 cm (DJ50). Reactive index (RSI) calculated as height/contact time (mm·ms-1). Statistical results showed that there no significant between (p > 0.05). Fat-free mass (FFM) found be correlated RSI for DJ20 (r = 0.52; p 0.049) DJ40 0.66; 0.01), while a negative fat (FM) -0.65; 0.01) DJ50 -0.59; 0.02). In addition, FM negatively associated right 0.02), left -0.62; =0.01), 60º -0.57; 0.03), positive FFM 0.59; As result, lean (LM) exert profound effects on ability, doesn’t seem affect athletes, showing possessing low high LM likely leads better athletic performance
