Asymmetric Neutral Point Diode Clamped Topology with Reduced Component Count for Switched Reluctance Machine Drive

The Reduced Asymmetric Neutral Point Clamped converter topology for unipolar driven, multiphase switched reluctance machines is proposed in this paper. This shares similarities with the conventional NPC and Asymmetric-NPC topologies, however it unique that components capacitor string outer semiconductor switches are shared among all phases a reduced component count. Some switching state combinations not possible during commutation overlap between motor phases, resulting minor torque transients regenerative braking. A custom modulation scheme implemented fixed frequency, phase-shifted carrier waveforms allow automatic balancing of neutral point voltage interleaved switches. simple observer control architecture used adjustments arbitrating contribution priorities handover.
