Asymptotic Completeness for Rayleigh Scattering
It is expected that the state of an atom or molecule, initially put into an excited state with an energy below the ionization threshold, relaxes to a groundstate by spontaneous emission of photons which propagate to spatial infinity. In this paper, this picture is established for a large class of models of non-relativistic atoms and molecules coupled to the quantized radiation field, but with t...
متن کاملAsymptotic Completeness for Rayleigh Scattering
We consider an electron bound by some anharmonic external potential and coupled to the quantized radiation eld in the dipole approximation. We prove asymptotic completeness for the photon scattering. This means that an arbitrary initial state has a long time asymptotic, which consists of electron plus radiation eld in their coupled ground state and nitely many outgoing photons.
متن کاملOn the Decoupling of Finite Singularities from the Question of Asymptotic Completeness in Two Body Quantum Systems
Let V be a multiplication operator, whose negative part, V-(V-< 0) obeys-A + (1 + c)V->-c for some c, c > 0. Let W = Vx where x is the characteristic function of the exterior of a ball. Our main result asserts that the scattering for-A + V is complete if and only if that for-A + W is complete. Our technical estimates exploit Wiener integrals and the Feynman-Kac formula. We also make an applicat...
متن کاملAsymptotic Behavior of Generalized Eigenfunctions in N-body Scattering
In this paper an asymptotic expansion is proved for locally (at infinity) outgoing functions on asymptotically Euclidian spaces. This is applied to N-body scattering where the two-body interactions are one-step polyhomogeneous symbols of order −1 or −2 (hence long-range and short-range respectively). The asymptotic behavior of the N-body resolvent applied to Schwartz functions is thereby deduce...
متن کاملVisualizing Astrophysical N-body Systems
I begin with a brief history of N-body simulation and visualization and then go on to describe various methods for creating images and animations of modern simulations in cosmology and galactic dynamics. These techniques are incorporated into a specialized particle visualization software library called MYRIAD that is designed to render images within large parallel N-body simulations as they run...
