Authority (I): A Promise Theoretic Formalization

Authority is a central concept in social systems, but it has variety of meanings. Promise Theory offers simple formalized understanding authority, and its origins, as polarization within network collaborative interactions. This idealized approximation stands contrast to the usual deontic view authority socio-philosophical literature, unifies various interpretations with single idea. It's shown that elementary meanings can all be understood promise, analogous `compass direction' some decision space, which agents may choose align voluntarily. therefore separated from embodiment by any particular agency or kind agent, closely related leadership management science. Agents try impose authoritative directives onto subordinates, imposition will generally ineffective, due their autonomy causal independence. Stable configurations formed resonant interactions employ both semantics dynamics bind agents. simple-minded formalization serves an foundation for later study about the dynamics derived `power'.
