Automatic Electromechanical Perturbator for Postural Control Analysis Based on Model Predictive Control

Objective clinical analyses are required to evaluate balance control performance. To this outcome, it is relevant study experimental protocols and develop devices that can provide reliable information about the ability of a subject maintain balance. Whereas most applications available in literature on market involve shifting tilting base support, system presented paper based direct application an impulsive (short-lasting) force by means electromechanical device (named automatic perturbator). The such stimulation rather complex since requires high dynamics accuracy. Moreover, occurrence several non-linearities, mainly related human–machine interaction, signals necessity for robust order achieve essential repeatability reliability. A linear electric motor, combination with Model Predictive Control, was used perturbator prototype. test bench, supported model simulations, developed architecture perturbation device. performance logic has been optimized iterative tuning controller parameters, resulting behavior presented.
