Outer Automorphisms of Mapping Class Groups of nonorientable Surfaces

Let Ng be the connected closed nonorientable surface of genus g ≥ 5 and Mod(Ng) denote the mapping class group of Ng . We prove that the outer automorphism group of Mod(Ng) is either trivial or Z if g is odd, and injects into the mapping class group of sphere with four holes if g is even.

Countable Groups Are Mapping Class Groups of Hyperbolic 3-manifolds

We prove that for every countable group G there exists a hyperbolic 3-manifold M such that the isometry group of M , the mapping class group of M , and the outer automorphism group of π1(M) are isomorphic to G.

Automorphisms of Quotients of Symmetric Groups

We describe the automorphism group of the quotient of the symmetric group on a countably innnite set by the group of nitary permutations. We show that the outer automorphism group is innnite cyclic. In the proof, we examine the structure of centralizers in this quotient.

2 Mapping Class Groups Are Not Kähler

The goal of these notes is to prove that the mapping class groups of a closed orientable surface of genus two, with punctures, are not Kähler

Automorphisms of P-groups of Maximal Class

Juhász has proved that the automorphism group of a group G of maximal class of order p, with p ≥ 5 and n > p + 1, has order divisible by p. We show that by translating the problem in terms of derivations, the result can be deduced from the case where G is metabelian. Here one can use a general result of Caranti and Scoppola concerning automorphisms of two-generator, nilpotent metabelian groups.
