A Virial Theorem for the Kinetic Energy of a Heavy Quark inside Hadrons
The formalism of the heavy quark effective theory is used to derive the field-theory analog of the virial theorem, which relates the matrix element of the kinetic energy of a heavy quark inside a hadron to a matrix element of the gluon field strength tensor. The existing QCD sum rule calculations of the kinetic energy are not consistent with this theorem. (submitted to Physics Letters B)
متن کاملAverage kinetic energy of a heavy quark in semileptonic B decay.
Within the ACCMM model the average kinetic energy of heavy quark in a heavy-light meson is calculated as hp2i = 3 2 p F , solely from the fact that the Gaussian momentum probability distribution has been taken in the ACCMM model. Therefore, the Fermi momentum parameter p F of the ACCMM model is not a truly free parameter, but is closely related to the average kinetic energy of heavy quark, whic...
متن کاملExchange-Correlation Energy Density from Virial Theorem
The virial of the exchange potential in density functional theory yields the exchange energy, but the virial of the correlation potential does not yield the correlation energy. Via the adiabatic connection formula, we define a hypercorrelated potential whose virial is exactly the correlation energy. This exchange-correlation energy density is uniquely determined by the exchange-correlation ener...
متن کاملSelf-energy of Heavy Quark
We demonstrate that to calculate the self-energy of a heavy quark in the heavy quark limit (or the heavy fermion limit in what is called the Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory), the use of standard dimensional regularization provides only the quantum limit: opposite to the heavy quark (or classical) limit that one wishes to obtain. We thus devised a standard ultraviolet/infrared regularization p...
متن کاملHeavy-quark Binding and Kinetic Energies in Heavy-light Mesons and the Constituent Quark Model
The spin-averaged binding energy and the hyperfine mass splitting of heavy-light mesons are investigated within the constituent quark model as a function of the inverse heavy-quark mass. It is shown that the so-called heavy-quark kinetic energy, −λ1/2mQ, may differ remarkably from the non-relativistic expectation 〈p〉/2mQ, thanks to relativistic effects in the effective interquark potential for ...
