Avoiding stress on non-lexical material in nouns and verbs: predictable verb prosody in Serbo-Croatian stress standard varieties

چکیده
Abstract We consider two asymmetries reported in the literature on word prosodic systems: tendency to allow more contrast nouns than verbs and avoid stress functional material. focus interaction between these tendencies propose a formal mechanism handle this couched Optimality Theory. In case study group of standard Serbo-Croatian varieties that have predictable but contrastive nouns, we develop an analysis morphologically conditioned assignment. Our features family constraints militating against non-lexical material three different levels: inflection proper ( *Infl-Stress- 1 ), locality domain 2 altogether 3 ). Analyzing class prosodically exceptional denominal borrowed verbs, show lexical-category effects exist within categories: preservation nominal stress, which leads additional verbs. Finally, explore option subsuming exceptionally contrast-preserving under offering arguments favor hotly debated view from are universally as .

Reducing Lexical Ambiguity in Serbo-Croatian
This paper presents an approach to acquisition of some lexical and grammatical constraints from large corpora using genetic algorithms. The main aim is to use these constraints to automatically define local grammars that can be used to reduce lexical ambiguity usually found in an initially tagged text. A genetic algorithm for computation of the minimal representation of grammatical features of ...

The increasing production of electronic (digital) texts (either on the Web or in other electronically available forms, such as digital libraries or archives) demands appropriate computer tools that can help human users in text manipulation and, additionally, in performing automatic processing of language resources. In the first place, a natural language processing (NLP) system needs to implemen...
متن کاملRUNNING HEAD : Lexical stress and phrasal prosody in segmentation
A large body of empirical research demonstrates that people exploit a wide variety of cues for the segmentation of continuous speech in artificial languages, including rhythmic properties, phrase boundary cues, and statistical regularities. However, less is known regarding how the different cues interact. In this study we addressed the question of the relative importance of lexical stress, phra...
متن کاملParallelized Power Iteration Clustering of Nouns and Verbs using Subject-Verb and Verb-Object Pairs
We explore the use of Power Iteration Clustering for large-scale clustering of nouns and verbs, using subject-verb-object triple relations. We have implemented a parallelized version of PIC, which can efficiently handle clustering of hundreds of thousands of sparse “documents.” We tested our implementation on clustering of over 1 million noun phrases, and over 650K verb phrases. We also evaluat...
متن کاملAutomatic Prosody Generation for Serbo-Croatian Speech Synthesis Based on Regression Trees
The paper presents the module for automatic generation of prosodic features of synthesized speech, namely, f0 targets and phonetic segment durations, within the speech synthesizer AlfaNumTTS, the most sophisticated speech synthesis system for Serbo-Croatian language to date. The module is based on regression trees trained on a studio recorded single speaker database of Serbo-Croatian. The datab...
