Back‐Arc Extension of the Central Bransfield Basin Induced by Ridge–Trench Collision: Implications From Ambient Noise Tomography and Stress Field Inversion

چکیده
The Bransfield Basin is a young (∼4 Ma) back-arc basin related to the remnant subduction of Phoenix Plate that once existed along entire Pacific margin Antarctic Peninsula. Based on recently deployed amphibious seismic network, we use ambient noise tomography obtain S-wave velocity structure in Central (CBB). Combining with stress field inverted from focal mechanisms, our images reveal CBB suffers significant extension northwest-southeast direction. strongest northeastern associated mantle exhumation and weakens southwest decoupled deformations between upper crust lithospheric mantle. Such an along-strike variation can be explained by slab window formation forearc rotation, which are detachment during ridge–trench collisions at Hero Fracture Zone.

15 صفحه اولMesozoic basin inversion in Central Alborz, evidence from the evolution of Taleqan-Gajereh-Lar paleograben
This paper presents evidence on Mesozoic inversion of basin bounding faults within the Taleqan-Gajereh-Lar Paleograben (TGLP) in Central Alborz Range. For this purpose, well documented stratigraphy data across the TGLP together with the new acquired structural data on the geometry and kinematics of the paleograben basin bounding faults are utilized. The TGLP has evolved through the Early and Mi...
متن کاملSubsurface Characterization of the Coso Geothermal Field and Surroundings by Ambient Noise Tomography
We apply seismic ambient noise tomography to image and investigate the shallow shear velocity structure beneath the Coso Geothermal Field and surrounding areas. Data from a PASSCAL experiment operated within the Coso Geothermal region between 1998 and 2000 and surrounding broadband stations from the Southern California Seismic Network (SCSN) are acquired and processed. Daily cross-correlations ...
متن کاملCrustal structure of the northeastern Tibetan plateau, the Ordos block and the Sichuan basin from ambient noise tomography∗
We apply ambient noise tomography to significant seismic data resources in a region including the northeastern Tibetan plateau, the Ordos block and the Sichuan basin. The seismic data come from about 160 stations of the provincial broadband digital seismograph networks of China. Ambient noise cross-correlations are performed on the data recorded between 2007 and 2009 and high quality inter-stat...
متن کاملCompressive geoacoustic inversion using ambient noise.
Surface generated ambient noise can be used to infer sediment properties. Here, a passive geoacoustic inversion method that uses noise recorded by a drifting vertical array is adopted. The array is steered using beamforming to compute the noise arriving at the array from various directions. This information is used in two different ways: Coherently (cross-correlation of upward/downward propagat...
